Eating Disorder Statistics

Eating disorders have become a major issue and problem in the United States.

According to EatingDisorderStats, more than 50,000 people will die due to an eating disorder from a “direct result” throughout a single person’s lifetime.

In America there are more than 35 million that are dealing with eating disorders, reported by the National Association of Anorexia and Eating Disorders website.

Ten percent of those reported with eating disorders develop when they are ten years old and younger, 33% are reported during the ages of 11 and 15, 43% between the ages of 16 and 20, and 86% are reported by the time they reach twenty years old (ANAD).

Among adolescent girls eating disorders have become the third most popular chronic illness stated by NEDIC.

Adolescent girls fear being overweight more than they fear “cancer, nuclear war or losing their parents” (NEDIC).
